OTTAWA, ON – Michael Barrett, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, has been appointed Conservative Shadow Minister for Health and Vice Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health.

“I am honoured to continue serving our community in my new role as Conservative Shadow Minister for Health and as the Vice Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health, and I will be dedicated to advocating for the health and mental wellness of Canadians,” said Mr. Barrett.

Mr. Barrett was named Shadow Minister for Health by the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, the Hon. Candice Bergen on February 23, 2022. Mr. Barrett was duly elected by committee members as the Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Health during today’s meeting on the Emergency Situation Facing Canadians in Light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. During questioning of officials from the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Office of the Auditor General, Mr. Barrett requested an evidence based plan to end federally mandated COVID-19 public health restrictions.

“We will keep working on behalf of all Canadians who have done the right thing for two years and are looking for a way forward, and as the Official Opposition we will be relentless in demanding a science based plan from the government to end all federal mandates,” added Mr. Barrett.
